RISE Internal Research Grant Awarded

Dr. Kawnish Kirtania of SEER group has been awarded with Internal Research Grant from the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), BUET. The proposed project “Valorization of bio-slurry from anaerobic digestion via hydrothermal carbonization (ID: 2022-01-007)” aims to explore the feasibility and optimum process conditions for valorizing bio-slurry, a byproduct of anaerobic digestion, via hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). The bio-slurry usually contains unconverted organic materials and nutrients, and this waste stream is extremely difficult to handle due to its excessive water content. The proposed study aims to explore the viability of this innovative concept using HTC for the purpose, taking advantage of the hydrous nature of the bio-slurry, and exploring the characteristics of the product of the HTC process.
